Poetry Month 2023 Post #17: “Consolation”

April is #NationalPoetryMonth and I am posting a Poem-A-Day. Today’s post is a poem I wrote last summer during the sabbatical.  All the time outside gave me a deep consolation that so much is happening that is beyond my own experience.

Consolation

Stars concealed to me
by daylight
still gleam
rays that travel
and refract

Song birds quiet to me
in thick dark
sing lullabies
only fledglings
have ears to hear

Flowers’ pageantry to me
in a bees’ eyes
speak of nectar
coupling, completing
traveling depth, width
for a whole world.
